Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today
City Selects New Director of Engineering

(Seguin) — The City of Seguin is starting the new year, with a new face on its staff. It kicked off 2022 with new leadership at the helm of its Capital Projects and Engineering Department. Public Information Officer Jennifer Sourdellia says that Melissa Reynolds is taking the reigns as Director of Engineering at a time when the city is growing, evolving, and developing like never before.

After spending 13 years in the Engineering Department at the City of New Braunfels, Reynolds assumes her new role in Seguin on Monday, January 3, 2022. Soudellia says while serving the citizens of New Braunfels, Reynolds quickly moved up the ranks from Graduate Engineer to Civil Engineer, then to Assistant City Engineer overseeing development projects. The City of Seguin will benefit from her experience in street and drainage improvement projects, land development planning, stormwater design and floodplain protection as it braces for a future of substantial growth and an impending population boom.

“We are so excited to have Melissa join this team. The job market for quality engineers is extremely competitive right now so we feel very fortunate to have found someone with her qualifications and expertise,” said Seguin City Manager Steve Parker. “Our goal with this search was to find someone who had substantial public sector experience preferably from a fast growth city and with a business/customer service friendly attitude. I am confident thatour selection has accomplished those goals,” he said.

Reynolds earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas – San Antonio and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas – Arlington. She is also a Licensed Professional Engineer and a Certified Floodplain Manager.

“I’m looking forward to this opportunity,” said Reynolds. “Having grown up in a small town similar in size to Seguin, the charm and community feel is comforting. My prior experience with fast paced growth has me aware of where development in Seguin is headed and what is needed to help facilitate a smooth transition, not only for existing residents but the environment as well. It’s an exciting time to join the City, with the comprehensive plan under way and an update to the regional transportation plan forthcoming. I look forward to working with the community and making a positive impact for the residents of Seguin,” she said.
