(Seguin) — A local JP judge wants another term in office. Darrell Hunter, Guadalupe County Justice of the Peace Precinct 1, has officially filed for re-election. Judge Hunter is seeking the Republican nomination during the March 1, 2022, Primary.
Hunter, who has served the public for several years, says he remains committed to the residents of Guadalupe County.
“I have been in it now for 23 years and I am seeking re-election because I just absolutely love what I do because I’m a very fair judge. I am a people person. I run my office the way I’d run my life. Nobody is a stranger to me. I try to do my job the best I know how to — to the (best of) my ability. I’ve done it for 23 years – actually a total of about 50 now including with all that I have involved with the police department prior to this. I retired as a sergeant there after about 23 and a half years there. So, people know who I am. The ones that don’t know me, they can see that I have a good background,” said Hunter.
Hunter says having a full respect of the law is key to ensuring fairness for anyone who enters his courtroom.
“The only thing that I can do is apply what laws the laws allow me to apply. As far as an enhancement, we just keep getting more and more cases filed on a regular basis now that COVID is I guess on the tail end of that. Evictions have opened up and they are just filing one eviction after another as well as small claims after another and of course, they are definitely not stopping on writing any citations out there,” said Hunter.
The 2022 primary election filing season runs through Dec. 13.
