Seguin gearing up for some Halloween fun

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today
Seguin gearing up for some Halloween fun

(Seguin) — Pumpkins, ghosts and goblins will be hitting the streets this Halloween. Whether it be door to door or trunk or treats, there will be some kind of way to help fill up those treat bags.

But perhaps one thing to note this year is that there will not be a Seguin Police Department Halloween Safe House this year at the Seguin Coliseum. Local officers, however, will still be out in full force making sure that kids are not only safe but that they get the candy they deserve.

Sarah Wallace, the Seguin PD’s community engagement officer, says officers will be set up along barricaded areas on College (Street) at North Milam, North Bauer, North San Marcos and North Heideke.

“Officers will be at those locations at about 5:45 and will be there until they run out of candy. They will have their Cop Cards on them as well if kiddos want to collect any. We got the idea to shut down College Street after brainstorming a way to celebrate Halloween and to keep it COVID safe — which is why we decided not to do the Halloween Safe House,” said Wallace. “We picked College Street due to it’s popularity on Halloween. We’ve heard many officers say how many kiddos come to the area and have voiced concern about the traffic that travels up and down the street. So our goal with the barricades was to provide a safe area for kiddos to trick or treat and enjoy themselves this Halloween.”

Wallace says a number of officers will also be setting up trunk or treat stations at other various parts throughout the city.

Other events throughout the Halloween weekend include a Trunk or Treat at Christ Lutheran Elm Creek. The event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

There will be a pumpkin carving contest, games, hayrides, sweet treats, food, and drinks. Canned good donations for the La Vernia food pantry and costumes are encouraged.

Faith Lutheran Church will also be hosting its annual  Community Trunk or Treat from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Vehicles will be stationed in its west side parking lot, located at 1326 E. Cedar St. Parking will be available in the Seguin High School parking lot.

Pickles, popcorn and water will also be available for purchase. The church is located at 3455 US Hwy. 90 W. in Seguin.
