Baseball club to host “The Haunted on Saunders Street”
(Seguin) – A local baseball organization this weekend will be signaling you to run all the way home – run home to hide under the covers that is. That’s because players of the Barracuda select baseball team will be busy transforming its batting cages located at
The Backyard into “The Haunted on Saunders Street” haunted house. For three straight nights, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the non-profit organization will be looking to raise money and all in exchange for your panic and eerie screams.
Leading the Halloween fundraiser is Coach Gilbert Salas. Salas says after hosting all the normal fundraisers, the group this year wanted to do something a bit different. He says that’s when they got the idea to transform the backstops, netting and pitcher mounds into a house of terror.
When asked about its rating or age limit, Salas says the only advice he has is to enter if you dare.
“It’s a haunted house. It’s supposed to be scary,” laughs Salas. “Kid friendly? Like I said, we have an exit plan. If the kid is not ready for it, they can either turn around and cry on mama’s shoulder or mama can tell the escort, ‘you know, this is too much for my son or daughter.’ I don’t know how to rate it; I’ve never really done one this big. The ones I’ve been to have always been scary.”
Salas says those brave enough are encouraged to save a few dollars by purchasing their pre-sale tickets now. He says pre-sale tickets will not be available after 2 p.m. Friday.
“We do charge for 12 and under, it’s $10, $8 pre-sale and then for 13 and over, it’s $15 and $13 pre-sale. Pre-sale tickets will end about 2 o’clock on Friday for the whole weekend and we’ll start selling them Friday about 10 o’clock,” said Salas.
Salas says the group is hoping its haunted house will spark a new Halloween tradition for those here in Seguin. He says luckily for the faint of heart, the haunted house will also be operating alongside some more friendly activities for most of the weekend.
“There will be a lot of activities here still. It’s just not the haunted house. On Saturday, every business here will be giving out treats for the kids. Sunday night, you’ve got the Cowboy game that you can still come out here and watch even after your kids go through or the adults go through the haunted house, there’s still the Cowboys game here on Sunday night and really, it’s just to kind of bring something more to Seguin where people don’t have to travel all the way to San Antonio, all the way to Austin to see a good, haunted house. I’m hoping it to be something that is worth every penny that they put into it,” said Salas.
Haunted House hours are 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Pre-sale tickets for the haunted house can be purchased at G’s Shaved Ice located at The Backyard at 225 N. Saunders St.
