Horns to begin arriving today for annual Buck Fever event

(Seguin) — It’s all about the horns and the great outdoors this coming Wednesday and Thursday. The 36th annual Buck Fever event returns this year to the Seguin Events Complex and Coliseum.

Buck Fever President Rodney Bargfrede says the first order of business is to make sure that all entries arrive tonight and Wednesday morning for this year’s Whitetail Horns contest.

“So what we are going to do this year since we were unable to have the show last year, we are going to allow entries from this past season and the season before so it’s going to be from 2019 to 2021. We are going to allow two years worth of harvest. We are adding an extra year this year to give those people that weren’t able to bring their animals down last year for a chance to enter the contest. But, they can only bring one animal. They have to pick one season and they have to pick a category to enter their deer in,” said Bargfrede.

Bargfrede says the Buck Fever organization was developed to promote the great outdoors and support the youth of Guadalupe County. He says this year, a list of activities is again on the schedule – beginning with Wednesday.

“Wednesday is Kids Night and we are going to have a scavenger hunt from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and we are also going to have a new group. It’s called ZooMagination. It’s a non-profit organization that advocates for animals and they rehabilitate and offer new homes to abandoned wild animals. So, they are going to bring animals there and one of the animals that they are going to bring that nobody has probably ever seen is a sloth. Both nights, we will have a fish tank, the pellet gun shoot and archery shoot for the kids,” said Bargfrede.

Bargfrede says events continue on Thursday with top prizes to be determined at the end of the night.

“Thursday is when we will call out the winners of our raffle. We will also be presenting all of the winners of the horn’s contest. We’ll do that presentation on Thursday also. We’ll be selling tickets for the gun raffle and we’ll also have a bucket drop raffle and a silent auction. We will be doing that both nights” said Bargfrede.

Tickets for this year’s 30 gun raffle are $10 each or six for $50. Tickets can be purchased at the event or in advance from any board member. They can also be purchased by messaging the committee in advance via its Buck Fever Facebook page.

Buck Fever will be held Wednesday and Thursday from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for students.

Entries for the horn’s contest will be accepted today from 6 to 9 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Seguin Coliseum.
