Significant rain event and flooding submerges pump motors at a sanitary sewer lift station

(Seguin) — This week’s significant weather event has caused a sanitary sewer overflowrequiring public notification. The City of Seguin Water/Wastewater Utility Department spent the remainder of the day Thursdayworking to restart pump motors at a sanitary sewer lift station that became overloaded dueto Thursday’s extreme weather event. City officials say the sewer overflowexceeded 100,000 gallons which is the trigger for public notice. They say here is no threat tothe public drinking water supply.

This reportedly occurred during the early morning hours at the city’s Walnut Branch Wastewater Treatment Plant located on East Klein Street. They say crews contained the sewer spill and successfully restarted the pump motors.

The city of Seguin maintains over 200 miles of sanitary sewer collection system pipelinesand treats approximately five million gallons of wastewater each day between its twowastewater treatment plants.
