Seguin PD releases identity of officer shot and injured in the line of duty

(Seguin)  — A Seguin Police Officer who was shot during a domestic disturbance over the weekend remains in a San Antonio hospital.

Seguin Police Officials say Patrol Sergeant Bradlee Flippin is currently listed in stable condition. Flippin was shot several times at a home located in the 600 block of Rosemary Street.

According to police, Flippin sustained gunshot wound injuries to the arms, neck, and head.

They say at approximately 2:30 am Sunday, Seguin police officers responded to the home for a domestic disturbance involving a person with a weapon.

After arriving on scene, officers located the suspect and attempted to verbally engage him.  It was during that exchange that Sgt. Flippin was shot by the suspect, who has since been identified as Rodney Juarez, 57, of Seguin.

Two additional victims at the scene, a female and a juvenile, were also shot. Both were transported to an area hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Juarez was taken into custody by the Guadalupe County SWAT Team. He is facing charges of attempted capital murder on a police officer, attempted capital murder, and attempted murder. Further charges are said to be pending. He is being held in the Guadalupe County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $3 million.

Seguin PD officials say they would like to extend their gratitude to the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, the Guadalupe County SWAT, and the City of Seguin Fire Department for their assistance.

Seguin PD officials also say they would like to thank the community and surrounding law enforcement agencies for their continuous support during this time. They say the support for Officer Flippin, who has been employed with the Seguin PD since December 2008, has been overwhelming.

The shooting incident remains under investigation by the Seguin PD Criminal Investigation Division and the Texas Rangers.
