Entries still being accepted for Guadalupe County Fair Parade

(Seguin) — Have you reserved your spot in this year’s Guadalupe County Fair Parade. Entries are still be accepted for the annual event. This year’s parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 8 in downtown Seguin.

Still recruiting new floats is Ashton Whitacre, event coordinator for this year’s annual fair and PRCA Rodeo.

Whitacre says in addition to all the favorites, this year’s parade will welcome plenty of school spirit.

“It’s been going good. We are a little slow. We are slowly getting entries now that our fair catalog is out. We have been getting a lot more inquires. Luckily for us, it is the Seguin High School Homecoming so that helps us to get some Homecoming participants. We have the majority of the Seguin High School and Seguin middle schools involved from the cheerleaders, the dance team, choir, the band. We have Navarro ISD participating. Of course, our FFAs from Navarro and Seguin are also coming. We have some churches that are coming. We have lots of non-profits that we love to have — everything from the Republic of Texas to 4H events, school groups, the chamber of commerce —  the Sheriff’s Posse is coming so we are picking up. Of course, we always like to have our parade be a huge success and have lots of entries so if anybody wants to bring a classic car or ride a horse in the parade, we would love to have them,” said Whitacre.

Whitacre says entries must not exceed 200 feet. There will also be a nominal fee for all commercial and/or political entries.

“Commercial and political campaigning entry fees are $40 and it also applies to any businesses that have a tax ID, campaigning organizations. If you are a non-profit with a 501c3 number, you do not have to pay a fee — Boy Scouts, 4H clubs, school groups, chamber of commerce, festival floats,” said Whitacre.

Although there is still plenty of time to enter, Whitacre ask that applications be submitted as soon as possible.

“I’d really like for people to go onto our website and fill out theform or get our catalog and mail it in that way, we can get a good idea of how many people are going to be in our parade so we can line you up correctly. Our line-up is going to be at 8 o’clock on Friday morning and we line up starting at Austin and College Street and we line-up almost all the way to the high school and of course, the judging starts at 8:30 and the parade starts at 10 and we work our way all the way down Austin Street to the Coliseum where we end,” said Whitacre.

The annual parade will be followed by the opening of the fair gates at 11 a.m.

Online applications can be found at gcfair.org.
