Seguin ISD to consider putting Mary B. Erskine campus up FOR SALE

(Seguin) — The Mary B. Erskine campus might just be the next building up for sale in the Seguin ISD. The Seguin ISD Board of Trustees is expected to declare the property located at 216 E. College Street as unnecessary for education purposes. The decision is scheduled to be made during tonight’s regular meeting.

If approved, the resolution would allow the district to move forward with the advertisement and bid solicitation for the sale of the former campus located at 216 E. College St.

The campus has operated in a number of roles for the district including serving as the district’s sixth grade center. The potential sale of the Mary B. Erskine building follows the district’s sale of two other aging facilities in the last few years. Those buildings, which were also no longer needed for future district use, included the Juan Seguin and Lizzie M. Burges schools.

In addition, the school board is set to consider and approve a resolution regarding the establishment of a local remote learning program. District officials say due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, TEA has made remote learning possible for the 2021-2022 school year.

Seguin ISD officials say they hope to establish a remote learning program to serve “students who qualify and are accepted into the program.”

Trustees will also receive an update of the 2021 strategic planning process which will help create the 2022-2027 Strategic Plan for the district. District officials say “The Strategic Planning Task Force is charged by the board of trustees with the responsibility for working collaboratively and cooperatively with the Superintendent, the Superintendent Leadership Team and resource personnel in developing a five  year strategic plan for recommendation to the board of trustees.”

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the Seguin ISD Board Room located inside of Oak Park Mall.
