(Seguin) — Now although St. James Catholic Church was forced to cancel its two day Fall Festival this weekend, one of its traditions will continue as planned. Sign-up is now underway for the church’s 4th Annual Classic Car Show. The show will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church parking lot.
Car Show Co-Chairperson Linda Kay says the committee felt it was important to still safely celebrate while bringing the community out.
“At this point, we want people to come out and enjoy themselves. We would like to make a little money, of course, but usually what we use the car show for was to help bring folks into our festival and since we can’t do our festival, we didn’t want to lose this. We didn’t want to lose the car show. We are doing it separately but we’ll have food booths. We have a few things. Not a lot– just a few things but it’s more like unity — trying to bring us together. With COVID, everything is not normal and so it’s a little bit of normalcy too trying to add a little bit and it’s open air so you are not going to bereal close to one another but you can still be out there and enjoy one another,” said Kay.
Kay says she invites all entries and is looking forward to showcasing a variety of vehicles.
“We have antiques, performance, 2000 and newer cars, foreign, custom, truck and low riders. The entry cost is $20 per vehicle. We start registering at 9 o’clock so they can come in and register,” said Kay.
First and second place prizes along with best show will be awarded to each class.
Kay says this weekend’s efforts are also to help promote a couple of other festival events that have been postponed until October.
“We are still going to do the meal and the auction and the raffle but that will be in October. We had to change everything. Now, we are doing a virtual auction and it takes a little time to set all that up so that’s why we ended up separating it and doing it a little different this year, “ said Kay.
Food, music and tickets for the church’s annual gift card raffle will also be available this Saturday. The St. James parking lot is located at 510 S. Camp St. Participants wishing to learn more are asked to email st.jamesclassiccarshow@gmail.com.
