(Seguin) — A local family is homeless today following a fire at a home located in the 900 block of E. Weinert Street. Seguin Fire Chief Dale Skinner says the fire was reported at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday.
“The first fire truck arriving on the scene reported some involvement with exposures being endangered and we later found out that one of the homes next to structure of origin did actually catch fire but we were quickly able to put it out and it only suffered minor fire damage to the ends of the house. The house was basically a total loss and there was a family at home at the time of the fire and no injuries to the occupants. However, they did lose a pet (dog),” said Skinner.
As a precaution, houses in the immediate area were also forced to evacuate. Although they don’t have an exact cause, Skinner says they do have an idea of where it may have started.
“We’ve kind of got an area of origin down to what appears to be a shop or former garage area but we don’t have a cause just as of yet. We do not suspect foul play or anything,” said Skinner.
The Seguin Police Department Victim Services has been working to help relocate the family.
Meanwhile, investigation still continues into a fire that ripped through eight units at the Summer’s Bend Apartments. Today marks a week since that fire. No injuries were reported although seven families lost their home. The eighth unit was reportedly vacant. This week also marks the seventh year anniversary of another major fire to strike the local apartment complex on East Walnut Street. Multiple units were also lost during that fire in 2014.
