Kidnapping suspect killed in shootout in Guadalupe County

(Seguin) — An aggravated kidnapping case from the Austin area ends with the shooting death of the suspect by Guadalupe County sheriff’s deputies. The incident happened shortly before 4 p.m. Monday along I-10 near the FM 2438 exit.

Guadalupe County Sheriff Arnold Zwicke says deputies received a call about a suspected vehicle that was believed to be involved with an aggravated kidnapping in Travis County. Sheriff’s deputies and two deputy constables located the vehicle on eastbound I-10 near Highway 46. The vehicle sped away and refused to stop, leading to a chase that reached 100 miles per hour. Sheriff Zwicke says, with the assistance of OnStar, they were able to have the vehicle’s speed reduced to just five miles per hour. Deputies were then able to stop the vehicle near the FM 2438 exit just east of Seguin. That’s when deputies say the suspect opened fire on the officers, who returned fire striking the suspect. They attempted to revive the suspect, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Texas Rangers have been brought in to handle the investigation.

Zwicke says, at this time, no other information is being made available about the case, including the name of the male suspect killed in the incident.
