(Seguin) — Seguin Parrot Head Club members don’t just love Jimmy Buffet, his music and his lifestyle. They also love their community, and that’s one of the reasons why they are gearing up for this year’s annual summer Phling. The Phling is the group’s biggest fundraiser each year.
Seguin Parrot Head Club member Toni Winters says the club hosts the Phling each year to help support charities in this area. She says people are encouraged to come to the party, have a great time, and also help to support those in need in this community.
“We are a non-profit, 501C3 (organization) and all of our money goes back to local charities in Seguin and New Braunfels. We did not get to have it, due to the pandemic last year. So we are ready to have a great party and have people come out, have fun, buy some silent auction items, dance, drink, eat and have a good time. We party with a purpose,” said Winters.
Winters says her fellow parrot heads know how to have a good time, and that’s why the Phling has become an event that people don’t want to miss. COVID-19 stopped the party last year, but she says this year’s Phling is expected to be bigger and better than ever.
“It’s going to be a tropical atmosphere. We have a new band. Jonas Lorence and his band are very fun and entertaining. We are going to have great food from Werner’s Catering out of Shiner. We had them the last time we had a Phling, and everybody loved their food. We are going to have drinks and a fun, fun atmosphere. It’s a great time. You just come, let loose and have fun,” said Winters.
Winters says tickets are going fast, and the deadline to purchase them is also rapidly approaching. She says the tickets are $50 each, and you get a great deal for your money.
The Phling is being held at the McQueeney Lions Club, off of FM 78. You can get tickets at the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce, Gift & Gourmet, or you can go to www.seguinphc.com and buy tickets on eventbrite. We are hoping to have a head count by Tuesday. We really, really encourage people to get their tickets, because we are most likely going to sell out,” said Winters.
People largely went without these kinds of special events in 2020 due to the pandemic. Winters says they think that people are eager to be able to come back together, celebrate life and just have a good time.
“We’ve had people call from other towns. They’ve seen it advertised on Facebook. They are just tickled to death to be able to come play. We all want to get back together, feel (like) a community and have fun together,” said Winters.
The Seguin Parrot Head Club describes itself as an inclusive social club, whose purpose is to bring together like-minded people who appreciate the tropical spirit of musician Jimmy Buffet — as well as his kick-back lifestyle and writings. PHC members incldue folks from Seguin and New Braunfels who say that they desire to leave things a little better than they found it, all while having a good time doing it. The money that they raise is given to local charities, including the Seguin Police Department’s Blue Santa program which provides toys to children across Seguin and Guadalupe County.
The Phling runs from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday at the McQueeney Lions Club at 3211 FM 78. Tickets need to be purchased soon, and again, they can be purchased online at seguinphc.com.
