Navarro ISD students to confirm residency for upcoming school year, district announces free meals for all students

(Geronimo) — Today is the first day for students to confirm their residency in the Navarro ISD. Residency verification for returning
Navarro ISD students begins today and runs through July 29 at the Junior High campus.

Navarro ISD Superintendent Wendi Russell says students will not be assigned to classes for the upcoming school year without reestablishing residency in the district.

“We have our returning student registration and we have new student registration. Every student in our district has to prove residency each school year so what we are asking our parents to do is on July 19-22 and then the 26-29, we are asking parents to provide residency for their students and just bringing in their proof of residency and our webpage, there’s an information sheet on there of what they need to bring — if they own their home, it’s a picture ID, a current tax receipt from the county appraisal district and then two consecutive utility bills showing that address and the name of the person that is registering the student,” said Russell.

Russell says verification and registration are also important to help ensure that all students in the Navarro ISD eat for free this coming school year. She says the district has partnered with the USDA to assist families by doing away with the cost of meals for students at each of its campuses.

“Then of course, we also have a form this year which is to help us identify income based so that we can apply for our economically disadvantaged numbers since all of lunches are free this year, not just free and reduced but every student is receiving a free lunch this coming school year. So, we won’t be collecting those through our normal food service, Child Nutrition Department, instead, we are doing it through our residency packet and all of it is online for parents,” said Russell.

Russell says new students to the district will also have an opportunity to register during the first week in August.

“Residency verification for anyone is at this time and then new student registration is Aug. 2-3 and Aug. 4 and I know that we originally had our website that they could do anybody — returning students and new students could do registration on those dates from 8 o’clock to 4 o’clock and we do understand that parents work and so we extended that on two different dates — this coming Wednesday and thenthe following Wednesday until 6 p.m. to help parents out so that they can get here,” said Russell.

Again, district officials state that students will not be assigned to classes for the 2021-2022 school year without re-establishing residency in the district. The required documents need to be taken to the Jr. High office during the week of July 19-22 and July 26-29.

Registration is available online through the Ascender Parent Portal available on the district’s website at nisd.us.
