Play Ball! Local Tee-baller to play in Pony League World Series

Play Ball! Local Tee-baller to play in Pony League World Series

(Seguin) – For most of us, playing in the World Series ends up only being a dream. But for one local girl, that dream is already in the works.

A caravan of support has literally arrived today in Youngsville, LA for 6-year-old Braelynn Adame who is representing both Seguin and San Antonio in the 2021 Tee-Ball Pony League World Series.

Adame advanced to the world series platform as a member of the Southwest Green All-Stars Tee-Ball Pony (Shetland) League in San Antonio. Designating herself as Adame’s number one fan is Grandmother Mary Adame, of Seguin. Adame says she couldn’t be prouder of her granddaughter for achieving so much especially during her first year to ever play the sport.

“I didn’t think she would take very much interest in it because 6-years-old — you didn’t think they would, but she is really loving the game. She played for a team called the Kekambas in the Pony League there in Southwest in San Antonio and then from there, she got chosen to play in All-Stars, but she plays first and third. Her main position is third base. She’s been catcher and pitcher,” said Mary.

Braelynn’s father Brandon Adame says he too is proud of his daughter and says competitive Tee-ball is a bit different than what most of us might be used to from watching in the stands.

“It is actually pretty competitive. I’ve watched the girls win and lose and when they win, they are so happy. When they lose, they go down. It’s very competitive to them,” said Brandon.

Brandon says he is especially excited for this week in watching his little girl do what she has come to love in just a few short months.

“She performs amazing. She is amazing. She plays third. She dives for balls. She hits wonderful but when she gets out, she gets real real sad and I’ve told her, it’s just an out. You can do it all over again just hit a little harder,” said Brandon. “I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. She loves it. She’s always happy when she gets to go practice and is ready for games all the time.”

The Seguin Daily News caught up with the little slugger on the day before today’s big game. Braelynn who was taking a break from the hotel pool says she couldn’t wait to take the field.

“I hit hard balls and I just love to play softball all the time,” said Braelynn.

As for her contribution to the team, she says it’s all about focusing on the ball and scoring.

“I line up and then I get ready to hit and she puts the ball down and I just wait for them to back up and then I just count to three and I hit it hard,” said Braelynn.

Although it’s the adults who probably have a better perspective on how big this week’s tournament really is – Braelynn appears to be keeping things pretty simple.

“I’m looking forward to just win and have fun with my friends,” said Braelynn.

In the meantime, it looks as though Mary and her husband Edward will be the ones drawing in all of the nerves that her granddaughter might have for this week’s World Series.

“We are so excited. I can’t even explain it and my husband — he used to coach my daughter because she played softball also and he is just overwhelmed with just the joy of the game and that she is enjoying it. We are enjoying it, I think, more than she is though,” said Mary.

The first match up for the team is today against Kinder, LA. The World Series Tee-Ball tournament begins today and runs through Saturday.
