(Seguin) – Kids are not going hungry this summer. The Seguin ISD Child Nutrition Department is reminding families about its Summer Food Program.

Jacob Galvan, director of Child Nutrition for the Seguin ISD, says this program is open to all area children.

“It’s a really great program offered by the United States Department of Agriculture and what it accomplishes is allowing school districts and other community programs to offer summer meals to children not just students but children ages 1 to 18 years old and so, what is unique about last year and still this year is we are still actually serving curbside and weekend meals and that is that at our CN (Child Nutrition) location located at 1105 N. King St. but we are finally out at Park West again as of this week and if you want to come out and enjoy breakfast or lunch at Park West, we are offering breakfast there from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday through Thursdays except for July 5 and then we are also offering lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and we are out there Monday through Thursday and we’ll be doing that every week until Aug. 5, “said Galvan.

Galvan says eligibility is not based on income or other criteria. He says it’s simply ensuring that all kids eat.

“But, it’s a great opportunity for parents to – you know if you are just tired of cooking at home or if you have a lot of kids that you have to feed, you can come out to those sites and we’ll provide meals free of cost for anybody that is 1 to 18 years old. No questions, no IDs or anything needed from the school district. It’s open to anybody in the community,” said Galvan.

Free meals will be served to those children on hand at Park West. Both curbside and weekend meals to be handed on Thursday will only be available at the Child Nutrition Office. Cost for adults is $2.30 for breakfast and $4 for lunch. Only one free meal per child will be served.
