Eleven Matadors earn All-District softball accolades

Seniors Taylor Springs, Jailey Cardenas, and Mia Cevallos were among the 11 SHS softball players recognized on the 26-5A All-District team for the 2021 season.



(Seguin) – Seguin softball players Mia Cevallos, Allison Kubena, and Ashlie Aguilar made the All-District 26-5A First Team to lead a group of 11 Matadors who received post-season recognition in a vote by the district’s head coaches.

Cevallos, a senior outfielder, hit .317 with a home run, 15 RBIs, and 18 runs scored this spring.

Kubena, a junior outfielder, led the Matadors with 19 RBIs and scored 14 times.

Aguilar, a sophomore infielder, posted a .403 batting average, a .479 on-base percentage, 21 runs scored, three doubles, and 15 runs driven in.

Freshman pitcher Kendall Hurt and junior infielder Layla Salazar landed on the All-District Second Team.

Hurt went 5-4 in the circle and emerged as the No. 1 pitcher in the rotation during the second half of the district schedule.

Salazar delivered a .419 batting average, a .549 on-base percentage, a home run, a triple, three doubles, 12 RBIs, and a team-high 25 runs scored.

Seguin’s Honorable Mention selections include junior outfielder Allie Mize, senior catcher Taylor Springs, freshman pitcher Madyson Schultze, senior infielder Jailey Cardenas, freshman catcher Graylyn Salazar, and junior infielder Vanessa Sanchez.

The Matadors’ Academic All-District honorees are Salazar, Sanchez, Kubena, Mize, Cevallos, Aguilar, Springs, Schultze, and Lorraine Daniels.

The 2021 Matadors finished fourth in District 26-5A, went 15-14 overall, and earned the program’s sixth consecutive trip to the UIL playoffs.

Dripping Springs sophomore Jordan Cox was named the District MVP. New Braunfels-Canyon junior Bella Mitchell earned Pitcher of the Year honors.

Canyon senior Kaylyn Cordero, a member of Seguin’s 2015 Little League World Series team, was named the Outstanding Catcher of the Year.

Dripping Springs sophomore Taylor Anderson received the Offensive Player of the Year award. Buda-Johnson freshman Sydney Wagner was voted Defensive Player of the Year. Dripping Springs freshman Haiden Anderson claimed Newcomer of the Year honors.
