(Seguin) — You’re invited to take a trip throughout Guadalupe County and all for a good cause. Registration is still underway for this weekend’s first ever Raffle Run benefiting the Guadalupe Child Welfare Board. The event is slated for Saturday at Max Starcke Park.
Diane Anderson-Glover, of the Child Welfare Board, says the non-profit group is excited about hosting the event and making things fun for all those who join.
“We decided to come up with something a little more creative than just a typical poker run with the motorcycle and Jeep clubs involved so during one of our meetings, we decided to do a raffle run so we came up with ideas where any participate, car, Jeep or motorcycle — any road worthy vehicle can register for the event. They will come to registration that morning, pick up their t-shirts, their wristband and they will get a list of 13 different locations to go out in the county and each location, there will be a volunteer station there and they will receive a raffle ticket for each location they make and those that come back at the rally point after 3:30 p.m., they’ll turn in their raffle tickets into the buckets of whatever item they choose,” said Anderson-Glover.
Anderson-Glover says volunteer booths will be stationed at each of the participating locations around the county to issue raffle tickets for that day’s drawing.
“We have 13 stops included. They are all in Guadalupe County including Blue Lotus Winery, Boot Scootin, BS Brewery, Burnt Bean, Ernie’s Patio Bar, Grain Bin Cafe, Lonestar Bar, Old Main Icehouse, Olmos Bar, Seguin Brewing Company, the Palms, Zuehl Tavern and Varsity,” said Anderson-Glover.
Anderson-Glover says every raffle prize is valued at $100 or more. Among the prizes are a Simpson Racing Helmet, Aaron Watson concert tickets, a bike detail, a couple’s guided river trip, Son’s Island riverside picnic and overnight camping trip plus several gift cards and gift certificates to area businesses.
Anderson-Glover says for those who don’t want to participate in the Raffle Run but who still want to support the organization are invited to purchase raffle tickets after 3:30 p.m. or stop by to pick up dinner.
“We are also serving a meal being catered by Next Door Catering. The meal tickets are $10 a piece. A portion of those proceeds goes back to the Child Welfare Board at the end of the day as well. The meals are going to be served from 3 to 4 p.m. in a drive thru meal ticket. It includes a pork steak dinner with mashed red potatoes with bacon, onions and butter, a side of green beans, a Hawaiian roll, a pickle, jalapeno and a tea,” said Anderson-Glover.
Anderson-Glover says the child welfare board is vital to ensuring that all needs are met for those children who have been abused or neglected and who have entered the Child Protective Services system.
“The Child Welfare Board is a group of volunteers that are delegated by the county commissioners and we work with CPS to help fill the needs of children in CPS custody. We have families that are trying to
become foster homes requesting that we pay for a fire extinguisher or fingerprints or help them with buying clothes for children, different hygiene items. We stock a Rainbow Room at the CPS and it’s filled with hygiene items, clothes, diapers, formulas, bags, blankets — anything that a child would need in their care of CPS administered here,” said Anderson-Glover.
The Raffle Run will be held from noon to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Max Starcke Park East. Online registration and meal tickets can be purchased at gccwb.org. On-site registration for the Raffle Run begins at 11 a.m. Saturday. Tickets for the run are $20 per driver and $10 for all participating passengers. Riders will return to the rally point at 3:30 p.m. Raffle winners will be announced live beginning at 4:30 p.m. on the Child Welfare Board Facebook page.
