(Seguin) — Today is the start of another round of STAAR tests for Texas students. Parents are reminded to do their part to ensure that kids are successful during these next three days. Students in the eligible testing grades will be tackling the test. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has provided virtual students the option for taking the STAAR exams. If students do not test, they will not be penalized in any way. Again, testing for virtual students in optional this year.

Sean Hoffmann, the chief communications officer for the Seguin ISD, says testing will be underway for much of the week.

“Seguin ISD students will be taking the STAAR state exam, which is a state mandated examination and starting today, grades 3-8 mathematics will be administered as well English III at the high school level. Tomorrow, Wednesday, grades 3-8 reading test will take place and then on Thursday, grade 5 science as well as Algebra II and then on Friday, of course is a make-up day for sessions that have occurred this week,” said Hoffmann.

Hoffmann says this week will wrap up another test season.

“This should be the final round except for those students who may need to take courses this summer during the June timeframe if they have not performed well on some of the previous courses. Our students are ready, and we are hoping that there will be no technological glitches that we saw recently, and we are praying that it all goes smooth,” said Hoffmann.

Hoffmann says teachers have prepared students all year long. He says this week, it’s about parents doing their part to ensure success.

“To encourage your students to their best is probably the best thing that a parent can do. Make sure they get to bed early and that they get to school on time and are well prepared and that they have something to eat or eat in the cafeteria before they go to class so really just try to make them as comfortable and put their minds at ease and instill as much confidence as you can and we know that our Seguin ISD students are going to do great,” said Hoffmann.

Parents are especially encouraged to make sure that their elementary school students arrive by 7:30 a.m. so that they can begin their day with breakfast. Water bottles and snacks will also be provided to each student during testing.
