No. 3 TLU softball sweeps University of Dallas, runs winning streak to 15

(Seguin) – The No. 3 ranked Texas Lutheran softball team pushed its season winning streak to 15 games and its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference winning streak to 37 games with a series sweep of the University of Dallas over the weekend. The Bulldogs blanked the Crusaders 9-0 on Friday and won Saturday’s games 14-0 and 15-3.
The Bulldogs, the reigning NCAA Division III national champions and six-time defending conference champions, have not lost an SCAC contest since March 2, 2019.
TLU improved to 23-4 overall and to 14-0 in the SCAC. Dallas fell to 2-14 overall and to 2-13 in the SCAC.
In Friday’s series opener, Chassety Raines hit a two-run double in the six-run third inning. She added an RBI groundout in the fourth.
Sarah Metzer, Haley Padilla, and Kelly Jurden each had two hits, and Metzer drove in two. She had an RBI single in the third and an RBI double in the fourth.
Jurden stole three bases, bringing her season total to 37 steals in 38 attempts. Jurden, the TLU and SCAC career leader in steals, now has an even 150 career stolen bases. She has been caught just six times.
McKay Bloxham also collected two RBI. She had a sacrifice fly in the second and an RBI triple in the third.
Ashlyn Strother allowed just two hits in four innings and improved to 8-1 in the circle.
In Saturday’s noon game, Rebecca Snow belted a two-run double in the second and a two-run home run in the third. She was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI.
Haley Padilla also had two RBI, and Kelly Jurden scored four runs and went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base.
Casey Martin was 1-for-1 with three runs scored and a pair of walks.
Sydney Ouellette went four innings for the victory. She allowed just one hit and struck out two. She improved to 10-2.
In Saturday’s late game, Padilla and Bailey Hudgeons each homered. Hudgeons had an RBI double in the second and a two-run homer in the fourth.
Padilla hit a three-run shot in the second.
Jurden was 2-for-2 with four runs scored and two walks. She stole two bases.
Chassety Raines was 2-for-4 with three RBI and three steals.
Raines tossed four innings and picked up the win to go to 5-0.
TLU travels to Shreveport, La. this weekend for a four-game series against Centenary (La.). The first three games of the series will be conference contests.
TLU baseball takes two of three in road series vs. Dallas

(Irving) – Texas Lutheran dropped the first game of a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball series to the University of Dallas 6-5 in 11 innings on Saturday, but bounced back to win the second game of the doubleheader 22-2 and cap the series with a 9-1 triumph on Sunday.
TLU’s overall record stands at 16-8 overall and at 8-1 in the SCAC. TLU and Trinity are tied atop the SCAC Baseball standings. Dallas fell to 6-15 overall and to 4-8 in the SCAC.
The Bulldogs scored the 22 runs in the second game on 17 hits. The contest was shortened to seven innings because of the conference’s 10-run rule.
TLU scored runs in every inning but the fifth. The Bulldogs led 9-0 after two and 14-0 after four innings.
Tyler Post hit a pair of homers, and Dalton Kinder, Joe Jimenez and Randy Huerta also went deep.
Post was 2-for-4 with four RBI. Kinder was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and four RBI, and Tyler Cauley went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBI.
Reigning SCAC Pitcher of the Week Joe Burch tossed another complete game. He went seven innings and struck out five. He allowed six hits and walked four. Burch improved to 4-1.
In the early game, Nicolas Hovde singled to center field to drive in the winning run in the 11th.
The game was tied at 4-4 from the fifth inning until the 10th, when each team scored a run.
Cole Irby was 3-for-5 in the early game. He had an RBI and a run scored. Austin Colon and Cullen Motsinger each had two hits. Colon scored a pair of runs.
Chase Cutler pitched four innings of shutout relief for TLU. He scattered three hits over the four innings.
Texas Lutheran received three-run home runs from Tyler Cauley and Randy Huerta in the Sunday win.
Cauley put TLU up 3-0 in the first with a three-run shot, his seventh of the season and the 35th of his career. Cauley is second all-time at TLU for career home runs.
Huerta hit a three-run home run in the third. For Huerta, the home run was his second of the season.
Simon Scales drove in three runs as well. Scales delivered a sacrifice fly in the fifth and a two-run single in the seventh.
Sophomore right-hander JT Taylor tossed five innings and allowed just one run to move his pitching record to 1-0. Taylor struck out six and walked three.
Matthew Hickey tossed two scoreless innings, and Zach Perry and Blade Strzelczyk also hurled shutout innings.
TLU returns to Katt-Isbel Field for Tuesday night’s home game against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
No visiting team fans are allowed at the game. TLU fans must be on the player pass list to be admitted to the stadium. Each TLU player can have four family members or friends on the pass list.
TLU volleyball secures No. 6 seed for upcoming SCAC Championship with two wins over Dallas

(Seguin) – The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs secured the No. 6 seed for the upcoming Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship with two victories Saturday over the University of Dallas.
TLU defeated Dallas in a pair of three-set matches. The Bulldogs won the early match 25-19, 25-14, 25-20 and took the afternoon match 25-22, 25-13, 31-29.
The Bulldogs improved to 5-11 overall and to 5-11 in the SCAC. Dallas dropped to 3-11 overall and to 3-11 in the SCAC.
TLU will face No. 3 seed Southwestern in the SCAC quarterfinal match. The match will be played in Georgetown, Texas next weekend, on either Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The date and time of the match have yet to be determined.
In the early match Saturday, Madison Weisinger collected 11 kills overall and served five aces in a row during the second set.
Paige Day added 10 kills, and Kacie Hall dished out 19 assists and recorded six kills.
TLU hit .301 for the match and held Dallas to .150. The Bulldogs tallied 11 total blocks. Weisinger had six blocks (five block assists and a solo).
In the late match versus Dallas, Tanyse Moehrig sparked the Bulldogs to the win. She entered the match late in the first set and went on to produce a team-leading 14 kills. She hit .379 with those 14 kills coming on 29 attempts with just two errors.
Dallas had seven set-points in the third set. Moehrig had three kills in the Bulldog comeback, and the match was clinched with a final kill from senior Cailey Young, who was playing in the final home match of her four-year career. Young had four kills and two blocks in her final home contest.
Hall and Adrienne Galaviz distributed 19 and 18 assists, respectively, and the Bulldogs added nine more blocks. Weisinger had five, and Hall added three.
Lexi Morris registered 26 digs in the late match. She also served two aces.
TLU hit .144 in the second match and held the Crusaders to .045.
