(Kingsbury) – The annual Hermann Sons Food Truck Festival is adding a few twists to this year’s event. Paul Gescheidle, organizer and member of the Seguin Hermann Sons Lodge #37 says one of those added twists includes a change in venue. He says instead of hosting the event in the Hermann Sons parking lot, this year’s scholarship fundraiser will move east to Moyesway Shooting Sports in Kingsbury.
“We had to do it offsite out of city limits due to the festival restrictions with COVID. We found a place on 85 acres that does sporting clay shooting so it has ample space to do social distancing. We have two ways of doing our scholarship fundraiser there is a $125 adult shooter entry or a $100 youth shooter entry and most of the portions of that are going to go straight to our scholarship and the rest goes to the event venue for hosting the event so it’s a way for us to make some money for our scholarships without having to break the bank for our organization. The other new aspect to it would be that we can still have our vendors. We can still have our live music. We can still have our food trucks out there without having to comprise any aspect of the food truck festival,” said Gescheidle.
As for the food trucks, Gescheidle says this year’s event will spotlight three delicious new truck menus.
“All three of them are new to the event – one of which is TNT Dogs based out of Seguin. They sell gourmet hot dogs. They sell some of the best hot dogs I think that I’ve ever had in my life and I’ve had them all the way from New York to California and parts in between. We have La Consentida which is a Mexican food truck and they have desserts, chimichanga as well as tacos al pastor and burritos and then we have Mojo Man who has some really delicious burgers and things like brisket nachos and brisket tacos and we are also going to have a kettle corn vendor so if you need something to top off the space in between the food, you can get a big bag of kettle corn to get your fix,” said Gescheidle.
In addition to the food trucks, the event will also feature a vendor’s market, a raffle a bounce house for the kids and live music provided by the Nuclear Juarez Band.
Gescheidle says he’s especially excited to host the event at Moyesway, the area’s newest shooting clay sports venue. He says not only is the festival going to help introduce the complex to residents but will also help raise some much-needed funds for the lodge located on West Kingsbury Street. He says last year, due to the lack of rentals and the loss of other fundraisers normally held, the non-profit organization, like others, struggled to collect what they needed.
Gescheidle adds that shooting sports will also be available on Saturday for those who want to try out their skills but who are not yet ready for the full-size competition.
“If you don’t want to compete in the competition but you still would like to come out and shoot sporting clays, you can for $20, two people $10 each can go head-to-head in a flurry and that’s 20 birds or 20 clays are thrown and whichever of the two gets the most, kind of settles the score of who is the better shot,” said Gescheidle.
Check in for the scholarship shooting competition is 8 a.m. Saturday. Scholarship awards of $500 will be awarded to top youth male and female shooters. Individual youth and adult prizes for first, second and third place will also be awarded. Registration fees are $125 for adults 18 and older, out of school and $100 for youth ages 8-21 years, in school.
The event will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Moyesway Shooting Sports is located at 12601 FM 20 in Kingsbury.
