City of Seguin to host Spring Clean-Up Day this Saturday

(Seguin) – This weekend is the weekend to tackle that spring cleaning. Helping residents get rid of all their unwanted junk will again be the city of Seguin. The city will be hosting a Spring Clean-Up Day on Saturday in the Seguin Coliseum parking lot.

Jennifer Sourdellia, the city of Seguin public information officer, says all residents have to do is pack up their trunks, trucks or trailers and bring proof of residency such as a photo ID or utility bill to prove they reside within the city limits.

“It’s just a really great time to cleanout things out of your garage or out of your house that you want to get rid of that maybe you haven’t had a chance to get rid of. You can bring that stuff to the Seguin Coliseum and we will take it out of your vehicle. We will unload it and we will properly and safely dispose of it for you so it’s very convenient for all our residents,” said Sourdellia.

Sourdellia says most items will be accepted and properly disposed.

“Some of the items that we accept are junk disposal, scrap metal, appliances but they can’t have Freon inside of them so you will have to properly dispose of the Freon before you bring the appliances to us. We will take up to 10 automobile items, no larger than 19.5 inches and another convenient service that we will have that day is paper shredding.  Residents are encouraged to bring any documents that might have sensitive information on them. We’ll have a secure onsite shredding and disposal service, and residents can bring up to two bags or boxes that will be accepted for shredding,” said Sourdellia.

While most items will be accepted. Sourdellia warns that there is still a list of items that won’t be collected.

“Those items include brush and limbs, any hazardous chemicals, construction materials or building debris, old fences, shelves or torn down building materials will not be accepted either and no tractor trailer, mower, bicycle or ATV tires and we will not be accepting any tires from local businesses,” said Sourdellia.

The City of Seguin Clean-Up Day is free and will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Coliseum parking lot located at 950 S. Austin St. Those with questions about whether or not certain items will be accepted are encouraged to call the public works department at 830-401-2416.
