(New Braunfels) – Seguin High School senior Tristan Moreno won the gold medal in the 100 meters and anchored the first-place 4×200 relay team to highlight a group of Matador athletes who earned area qualifications in eight events at the District 26-5A track-and-field championships this week at Canyon High School in New Braunfels.
Moreno’s 100-meter time of 11.04 was fast enough to beat runner-up Gunnar Betts (11.31) of Dripping Springs.
Christian Soefje, Michael Cornelius, and Marques Washington teamed with Moreno to claim the district championship in the 4×200 relay with a time of 1:31.22.
Moreno also qualifed for the area meet in the 200 meters with a second place time of 22.08, and in the long jump with a fourth place mark of 20-07.25.
Branden Knox advanced to the area meet by finishing third in the shot put with a throw of 46-00.25.
Seguin’s Nayla Harris took second place in the girls 100 meters with a time of 12.26 seconds. She qualified for area in the triple jump with a fourth place mark of 34-02.50.
Harris teamed with Kyra Nunez, Audriana Rodriguez, and Ashley Lingueno to finish second in the 4×100 relay with a time of 50.06 seconds.
The District 25-26 Area Meet is slated for Apr. 14 in Georgetown.
