(Seguin) — More people this week will be able to protect themselves and others from the COVID-19 virus. Local officials say another round of 1,000 doses of the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine will be arriving in Seguin this week. There will also be an additional batch of 1,000 Moderna vaccine, that will be used to provide second doses to those who got their first shot a month ago. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine requires only one shot. The shots will all be administered during a mass vaccination clinic on Tuesday at the Seguin Coliseum.
The announcement of the new doses was made on Friday by the city of Seguin, Guadalupe County and Guadalupe Regional Medical Center. Those on the waitlist are reminded to check their emails for a scheduled appointment or answer their phones to confirm.
All COVID-19 vaccines are free of charge and available by appointment only. The doses will be administered from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Meanwhile, state officials say over a million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are expected to arrive in Texas for distribution this week. The Texas Department of State Health Services says over eight-hundred-thousand of the doses go to nearly eight-hundred vaccine providers in more than two-hundred counties. The other two-hundred-or so thousand doses go to pharmacy chains that are participating in the vaccination campaign around the state.
In Texas as of Sunday, nearly seven-million people had gotten dose number one. Almost four-million people in Texas are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
