Residents encouraged to dial temporary Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office

Residents encouraged to dial temporary Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office

(Seguin) — Do you have a non-emergency and need to contact the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office? For the next few days and into the weekend, the sheriff’s office is encouraging residents to reach its office via a temporary dispatch number. That number is 210-961-4255.

Investigator Zach McBride, says the temporary number is in effort to remain in contact with the public as the sheriff’s office begins the process of relocating the dispatch office to its new building next door. During this transition, he says dispatchers will be answering calls and dispatching all emergency services from an off-site public safety answering point in Bexar County.

“Since we are transitioning our dispatch office from our old building to our new building, there was some uncertainty on whether or not we could transfer just the non-emergency number to where our dispatchers are operating now in Bexar County. So, to mitigate that, we obtained a number at the dispatch office that they are using so that the public can call in to report non-emergencies such as theft or calls that are passed the situation happening to where if they need to get a hold of a deputy to make a report, to report something that is not worthy of 9-1-1,” said McBride.

The established sheriff’s office phone numbers will still be answered for administrative purposes during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. However, if you need to report a crime or other situation that is not an emergency, please use the alternate number. All calls outside of those business hours must use the temporary number.

Again McBride states that anyone who finds themselves in an emergency should still dial 9-1-1.

“9-1-1 is not affected and the cool thing with that is when our 9-1-1, they can just flip a switch and they can go to any 9-1-1, they call it a public safety entry point and so, we were able to basically flip a switch and go to our other location in Bexar County. So, 9-1-1 was seamless but the administrative line is on a different network so that’s where the uncertainty of (whether) it would transfer or not,” said McBride.

Sheriff’s officials expect this relocation to take anywhere from up to five days and anticipate that by Monday morning, this move will be completed and the alternate number will no longer be needed.

Updates on the temporary phone line at the sheriff’s office will be made available on the sheriff’s office and the KWED/Seguin Daily News Facebook pages.
