Seguin softball blanks Veterans Memorial in season, district opener
(Seguin) – Seguin opened the 2021 softball season and District 26-5A schedule with a 9-0 home shutout of San Antonio-Veterans Memorial on Monday.

Madyson Schultze tossed a three-hitter, struck out eight, and worked around seven walks to keep the shutout intact and notch the complete-game win in the circle.

Schultze also went 2-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs.

Ashlie Aguilar, Alison Kubena, and Layla Salazar recorded two hits apiece. Aguilar and Salazar each scored twice.

Jailey Cardenas and Ryan Rangel drove in two runs apiece. Aguilar, Kubena, and Allison Mize each delivered one RBI. Mia Cevallos and Vanessa Sanchez each had a hit and a run scored

The Matadors (1-0) visit Kyle-Lehman in a district game on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Marion softball drops season opener

(Gonzales) – Marion opened the 2021 softball season with a 9-3 road loss to Goznales on Monday.

Lily Bek went 2-3 with a triple, a stolen base, and two runs scored.

Alyssa Robles finished 1-3 and recorded both Marion RBIs.

Kira Jones had the only other hit for the Bulldogs. She pitched 5-1/3 innings, allowing five runs on five hits with five walks and one strikeout.

Marion (0-1) competes in the Floresville Tournament this Thursday – Saturday. The Bulldogs open the event Thursday against Seguin at 4 p.m. and Floresville at 6:30.
