City making it easy to get rid of your Chistmas tree

(Seguin) — If your Christmas tree is looking a little dry and droopy these days, it might be time to let it go. The city of Seguin is offering a Christmas tree removal service for local residents who have real (once live) trees in their homes.

Seguin Public Information Officer Jennifer Sourcdellia says live trees can be cut in half and put out for pickup as part of the city’s regular garbage collection services.

“We just want everyone to know that we are picking up Christmas trees now. We know it hasn’t been too long since we had Christmas, but there are some people out there who want to go ahead and get rid of their Christmas tree, and we are more than happy to pick it up. There are two ways to go about this. The first is the live Christmas trees will be collected with your regular garbage pick up, on your regular garbage pick up day. We want to make sure that all the ornaments and all the decorations are removed from the tree, including the tree stand, and also you must cut it in half before it will be collected. That is for collection on your regular garbage day,” said Sourdellia.

Some people may not want their tree to end up in a landfill. If that’s the case for you, the city also has an option that will allow your tree to be mulched up as part of its brush collection program.

“You can also choose to have it picked up duing brush collection. You can leave your tree at the curb and it will be collected as part of our rotation of our brush collection. These Christmas trees must be placed at the curb on the Monday morning of your designated week to make sure that it’s picked up. Again, you must have all the decorations, lights, stands — anything that’s on the tree must be removed before it’s collected. You do not have to cut it in half if it’s picked up as a brush collection. That is the one difference,” said Sourdellia.

The brush collection occurs once a month in various parts of the city. Sourdellia says they’ve also made it easy for you to find out when you’re scheduled to receive your monthly brush pickup.

“If you need to find out which brush collection you fall within in your zone, just visit us at seguintexas.gov and click on the public works page, where there is a brush link and that will take you to all the different zones in the city,” said Sourdellia.

Sourdellia says if people need more information about the live Christmas tree disposal services, they can call the Public Works Department at 830-401-2416 or Citizen Relations Office at (830) 401-2445.
