(Seguin) — Blue Santa is ready to unpack his gift bag. Today and Thursday marks distribution day for the Seguin Police Department’s Blue Santa Program. Hope Vasquez, Blue Santa’s top elf, says after weeks of collecting and wrapping, Blue Santa is finally ready to aid families in need this holiday season.
She says because of the pandemic, things will be a bit different.
“We are going to have a curbside service. No need to get off of your vehicle. There will be parking spaces in the parking lot to accommodate at least 10 cars at a time. They just need to be ready and have their trunk open, have their little blue slip with them and have their driver’s license so they can claim and confirm that they are getting the correct bag. So, it will be fast for us to expedite the gifts to their vehicle. Again, they don’t need to get off. They just park and we’ll be keeping our eyes open when those cars arrive and we just have runners (to the vehicles).”
Vasquez says she is also looking for a few high school or Texas Lutheran University students willing to serve as runners and help deliver the gifts to the vehicles. All they have to do is show up between the distribution times of noon and 7:30 pm.
The gifts can be picked up outside of this year’s Blue Santa workshop located in the old Beall’s Department Store near Burke’s in Crossroads Mall. The mall is located at 1500 E. Court St.
