Volunteers needed for today’s final Blue Santa wrap session

(Seguin) — Now that Blue Santa has officially checked his list twice, his focus is now on getting all those gifts wrapped. Friday marked the deadline to submit applications for the Seguin Police Department Blue Santa Program. The program provides toys for underprivileged families in the community.

Blue Santa’s Top Elf Hope Vasquez since late October, Blue Santa had been asking that families sign-up for assistance.  Vasquez says now today is the final day for getting the job done and getting those gifts wrapped. She says Blue Santa is seeking the help of some community elves for today’s final wrap session from 10 a.m. to  7:30 p.m.

“We have more openings during the daytime so we really want to encourage all those retirees or people that are not working to come early so they can help start wrapping these gifts because we have a large session in the evening but the morning before 4 p.m., there’s a lot of openings that can still be filled out for some to come,” said Vasquez.

Vasquez says Blue Santa has worked really hard to make sure that helping him is safe and hopes that people sign-up for one of the allotted times as soon as possible.

“We have 33 tables and it’s pretty spaced out, 10 feet apart, practicing social distancing of course and hand sanitizer on top of each of the tables so we are pretty much on top of things, on sanitizing everything as everybody uses a table. We are practicing and making sure everybody is safe so we definitely need their help to come and help us wrap all of these gifts and get them done by 7:30 p.m. Monday,” said Vasquez.

Those wishing to volunteer today can still call 830-401-2386 or email bluesanta@seguintexas.gov. The wrap session will be held in the Blue Santa’s headquarters located in the old Beall’s Department Store at Crossroads Mall.
