(Seguin) — Some of the most popular names in Tejano music will come together this weekend in Seguin. Guadalupe Productions, owned and operated by Andrew Belmarez, will be hosting its Second Annual Awards Show. The show is slated for Saturday night at the American Legion Hall. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be a limit on the number of individuals allowed in the audience.
Belmarez says the awards show will feature several top names including a list of performers that evening.
“There are special appearances by Jay Perez, Ram Herrera, Stevie D, Oscar Montemayor, Tony Saenz. There’s going to be top conjunto artists, top Tejano artists, (and) performances by Devin Banda, Krystal Diaz, Erika Renee, Liz Garcia, Conjunto Cats, Conjunto Roadhouse and the Big Dawgs, they are performing,” said Belmarez.
Belmarez, who is from Seguin, says the show was originally scheduled to be held in Houston but because of the pandemic was moved here locally.
Belmarez says he feels going through with the awards show is more important than ever. He says like most things, the pandemic has jolted those in the Tejano music business.
“The awards show is just to keep Tejano music going. That’s the purpose because now some of these bands, they don’t have bands and what’s going to be coming out now, there’s going to be a lot of track stars (individual singers). So, we just want to keep them going, keeping the bands together because a lot of them when COVID hit, a lot of the musicians, they got out of the bands. They got a job,” said Belmarez.
Individual tickets will be sold at the door. Doors open at 6 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $5 before 8 p.m. and $10 after 8 p.m.
The American Legion Hall is located at 618 W. Kingsbury St.
