(Guadalupe County) — Guadalupe County is reporting a slight uptick in the number of positive COVID-19 cases. Patrick Pinder, the Guadalupe County emergency management coordinator, says the latest numbers are slightly above what has been reported these last few weeks.
“We got a pretty good increase in numbers yesterday (Monday) from DSHS. (Monday) they submitted 70 total active cases, to us. Those numbers included the cities of New Braunfels with three confirmed cases. Cibolo with eight cases. Seguin 20 cases, Schertz four cases, Marion one case and in the unincorporated areas of the county 11 cases. So, that shows 47 confirmed COVID cases and then we have the probable active category and those are in those respective jurisdictions, New Braunfels has three, Cibolo has 11, Seguin has five, Schertz has seven, Marion zero, Selma zero and in the unincorporated area of the county (we have) seven. So that’s 33. So, we have a total of 80 active cases of COVID currently in Guadalupe County which is up since last week a little bit so we are beginning to see those state numbers come up a little bit,” said Pinder.
As for the hospitalizations, Pinder on Tuesday morning had reported to the court four hospitalizations but by the end of the day, that number had doubled to eight. Pinder reports the seven day moving average for hospitalizations is still less than one per day.
The number of deaths in Guadalupe County according to Pinder also currently remains at 46. However, he says that number is expected to be higher once the state updates its information. The Texas Department of State Health Services webpage currently reports a total of 79 deaths in the county.
Guadalupe County officials continue to urge residents to use common sense when it comes to protecting themselves against the virus.
The latest reports have the nation’s hospitals being pushed to the limit with the current surge in coronavirus cases. The COVID Tracking Project reports more than 73,000 Americans were being treated in hospitals Monday for COVID-19. Officials say that’s a record. Cases are up in every state except Georgia, and there were more than a million new infections in the U.S. last week. There have been more than 100,000 new infections every day since November 4th.
