(Seguin) — Investigation continues into an officer involved shooting late Friday night.
The shooting involving a pair of Seguin Police Officers was reported at approximately 11:40 p.m. Friday at a home in the 300 block of Nagel Street.
The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Di Andre Jamall Shelton, of Seguin, has since been treated for his injuries and now remains behind bars in the Hays County Law Enforcement Center in San Marcos in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
Officials say Shelton was shot after pointing a handgun at the officers, who were called out to the home to investigate a disturbance involving multiple persons and shots fired.
Upon arrival, two Seguin Police Officers reportedly encountered Shelton standing inside the doorway of a residence holding a handgun. Shelton was ordered multiple times to put the weapon down and eventually complied with the officers’ requests. However, moments later and before officers could secure the weapon, officials say Shelton allegedly picked the handgun back up and pointed it at the officers. That’s when the officers reportedly fired, striking the suspect at least once.
Shelton was transported by Seguin Fire/EMS to Ascension Seton Hays Hospital in Kyle for non-life-threatening injuries.
Both officers have been placed on administrative leave per standard procedure during the investigation.
Shelton is charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, a first-degree felony.
Officials say one of the officers involved in the shooting incident has been with the Seguin Police Department for five years, while the other has served the city of Seguin for just over a year.
Officials say this is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Seguin Police Department in coordination with Texas Rangers.
