Seguin volleyball drops district opener to Patriots
(Seguin) – San Antonio-Veterans Memorial dealt Seguin a 3-1 loss in the District 26-5A opener for both teams Friday night at Goldie Harris Gym.

The Matadors won the first set 25-23, but the Patriots claimed the next three 25-15, 25-14, and 25-23.

Taylor Bode led Seguin at the net with 12 kills and a solo block. Julie Kocian and Riley Jahns each recorded a block as well.

Setters Reese Brittain and Layla Salazar delivered 18 and 15 assists, respectively. Brittain sent a team-high three aces over the net. Kocian, Suarez, and Kyla Ramon added two aces apiece.

Reagan Rodriguez came up with a team-high 22 digs. Suarez chipped in with 14.

The Matadors (2-4, 0-1) travel to Kyle on Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. district match against Lehman.

Marion volleyball dispatches Great Hearts Monte Vista in four sets
(Marion) – The Bulldogs moved to 2-3 in District 26-3A Friday night with a 3-1 road win over Great Hearts Monte Vista in San Antonio.

Marion won the first set 25-13, lost the second 25-21, and closed it out with 25-22 and 25-15 wins in the third and fourth sets.

Madison Doss sparked the Bulldogs offensively with 27 assists and 10 service aces. Haylee Mabee put away nine kills. Lily Bek led Marion defensively with 19 digs.

The Bulldogs (3-12, 2-3) visit Nixon-Smiley Tuesday for a 7 p.m. district match.
