(Seguin) — A former member of the Seguin City Council says she wants to make a difference, she wants to strengthen the community and she wants build upon some of the good things already happening in the community.
Donna Dodgen has officially filed to run for mayor of the city of Seguin during the Tuesday, November 3 general election. Dodgen says she wants to continue to serve the citizens of Seguin, and continue to move Seguin in the right direction.
“I want to continue on the path — the positive path that we are going (in). We are doing a great job. We are moving. There are lots of changes occurring. And I want to be a part of that,” said Dodgen.
Dodgen served on the city council from 2012 to 2018. Dodgen is a former downtown business owner, and she says she’s also been very active in the community for nearly 30 years. She says all of that helps to make her uniquely qualified to lead this community.
“I have experience. I I know I can make a difference. I’ve done that already in the times that I served. I have experience in boards and in lots of things downtown. I’ve been involved in the community for 27 years. I wanted to get to know it, and I have. I listen. I just think that I have a broad view to bring to our city,” said Dodgen.
Dodgen says there are some positive things happening in Seguin, but she says it’s important that we build upon those to make this an even better place to work and to call home. Dodgen says there are several things that she would like to do if she is elected. She preparing and planning for our future will be key to the city’s success.
“I want to continue on that positive path. But I want to make sure that we have our master plan and our downtown plan, and our development needs all in place. That does continue what’s being done, but I also want to continue to build on that. I want to continue to strengthen our downtown and our businesses, along with our manufacturing. In a sense, it is continuing the same, but it’s building upon it and growing. I really want us to communicate, educate and be transparent and listen,” said Dodgen.
Dodgen will face local resident Frank L. Herrera in the mayoral race. Herrera announced his candidacy in a one line email to KWED/Seguin Daily News over the weekend. We will have more on his candidacy soon.
There are also four seats council seats that will appear on the November ballot. There will be, at least three new faces on the council, because District 6 Councilwoman Fonda Mathis, District 2 Councilwoman Jet Crabb, District 1 Councilman Ernest Leal and current Mayor Don Keil are no longer eligible to run, because of the city’s eight-year term limit.
The District 6 race will feature Monica Napier-Carter and Wanda Rosales. It’s the only contested council race thus far. Councilman Chris Rangel has filed for re-election to his District 4 seat. In District 2, Pete Silvius is the only candidate to have filed for that position. And in District 1, no one has yet announced their plans to run for that seat.
