(Seguin) – Seguin High School has announced its revised volleyball schedule for the 2020 season to reflect the changes that accompany the UIL moving the athletics calendar for 5A and 6A schools back four weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Matadors will play two pre-season scrimmages before the regular season begins. The first is Friday Sept. 11 in Floresville, with the varsity starting at 6:30 p.m. The second is Saturday, Sept. 12 against Medina Valley at Goldie Harris Gym, with a noon start time for the varsity teams.
Seguin’s first regular season competition is a dual match with Gonzales and Floresville in Gonzales on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
The regular season home opener at Goldie Harris Gym is Tuesday, Sept. 22 against San Antonio-Southside at 6:30 p.m.
The Matadors open the District 26-5A schedule on Friday, Sept. 25 with a 6:30 p.m. home match against San Antonio-Veterans Memorial.
The most notable change in the non-district schedule is the absence of tournament play.
The Mats were originally slated to play in the Westwood and Floresville tournaments, in addition to hosting their own tournament, but those events have been eliminated from the schedule.
The UIL volleyball playoffs for 5A and 6A programs begin Nov. 19-21 with the bi-district round and culminate with the state tournament Dec. 11-12 at the Culwell Center in Garland.
