(Seguin) — The community is encouraged to keep itself safe as COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continue to rise in Guadalupe County.

Guadalupe Regional Medical Center recently reported that it had 32 hospitalized COVID-19 patients. That’s up from the 26 patients reported over the weekend.

The Guadalupe County Emergency Management Office on Monday also stated that there were 15 confirmed new cases in Guadalupe County, bringing the total number of active cases to 60. This number, however, is expected to change by the end of today.

There are dozens more cases in the pipeline, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services, which says that there are 704 total cases in Guadalupe County. That number from the state includes 374 pending cases. Pending cases are those that have not yet been investigated by state epidemiologists — so there is no official confirmation of the case, and the address of the individual tested has not been verified.

Regardless of the number you use, the case count is going up locally. While the number is increasing, so is the number of people who have recovered from the virus. The data shows that 270 have recovered from COVID-19 in Guadalupe County.

GRMC is leading the charge when it comes to treating the sickest patients with COVID-19. It has dedicated a portion of its campus as a COVID-19 unit and it has a dedicated COVID-19 ICU.

If the hospital sees a patient surge that exceeds its current capacity, it has already received permission from the state to house patients at its previous GRMC Outpatient Surgical Center.
