Myles McCord recently finalized his decision to attend Texas Lutheran University and compete for the school’s football and track & field teams.
(Seguin) – Navarro High School senior Myles McCord will stay close to home to continue his athletic career in multiple sports at the NCAA Division III level.
McCord has accepted an offer to join the football and track & field programs at Texas Lutheran University.
The current Panther and former Lifegate Falcon was a First Team All-District special teams player and starting safety in his only football season at Navarro last fall.
McCord led the Panthers in kick return and punt return yardage, and returned a kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown in a September win over Giddings.
As a defensive back, McCord recorded 40 tackles, two for loss, and collected three turnovers – one interception and two fumble recoveries.
His work in the secondary was instrumental in helping Navarro go 13-1 with a District 13-4A-Division II championship and four-round playoff run to the Region IV finals.
McCord spent the first three years of his high school career at Lifegate Christian School in Seguin.
He helped the Falcons win the TAPPS Six-Man Division III state championship as a sophomore in 2017 and led the program to the 2018 TCAL Six-Man title as a junior.
McCord was the TCAL Six-Man State Player of the Year in 2018 as Lifegate’s starting spread-back. He finished with over 2,000 all-purpose yards and accounted for 58 total touchdowns that season.
He was an All-State selection as a sophomore in the Falcons’ final season as a member of TAPPS.
McCord was also a dominant track & field athlete for Lifegate.
As a junior in the spring of 2019, McCord claimed gold medals in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 400 meters at the TCAL state meet. He finished second in both the long jump and triple jump.
McCord’s only track & field season at Navarro is still in limbo due to the UIL’s suspension of spring activities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The multi-sport standout is part of Texas Lutheran head football coach Ricky Matt’s first recruiting class.
Matt, previously TLU’s defensive coordinator, became the Bulldogs’ 22nd head coach in mid-December after Carl Gustafson announced his retirement.
