In light of the growing concern with COVID-19 spread and with the recent news of another local case, and a community transmission of the virus in the area — the healthcare systems in the San Antonio area will begin a “no visitor” policy (with exceptions for special patient populations). The no visitor policy officially started on Sunday at GRMC. There are a few exceptions — one visitor will be allowed only for childbirth, end of life, parent of pediatric patients, and goodbye visit of military personnel departing for deployment. GRMC officials say they know that social and emotional support are important aspects of patient care. They say they have a team of IT and counseling professionals working to arrange alternate methods of communicationto keep their patients linked to their families.
