Seguin mayor signs local State of Disaster Proclamation in response to COVID-19

(Seguin) – Seguin Mayor Don Keil has signed a Declaration of Local Disaster for Public Health Emergency in response to anticipated needs to respond to the COVID-19 crisis. The declaration enables the City of Seguin to become eligible to seek emergency assistance in response to impacts of Coronavirus commonly known as COVID-19.

Both President Donald Trump and Governor Greg Abbott have issued National and State emergency declarations allowing federal and state assistance to areas affected by COVID-19 as it continues to impact the United States.

A public health emergency declaration assists federal, state and local government in securing supplies, equipment, and funding to respond to and recover from emergencies. Mayor Keil also announced that the city is taking a series of preventative measures due to the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Central Texas.
“We believe the changes we are taking today strike the difficult balance between maintaining basic operations while lessening the likelihood of spreading the coronavirus,” said Mayor Keil.

“As the coronavirus pandemic continues to evolve, I want our citizens to know we take this public health threat seriously and are taking appropriate actions. He continued by saying, “This is an emerging, rapidly evolving situation and we will remain vigilant as we deal with this challenging issue. Please continue to do what you can to keep yourself and your family healthy, and we’ll do what we can do as your local government to help responsibly prevent the spread of infection.”

The declaration is available on the city’s website at seguintexas.gov.
