Panthers claim regional powerlifting title, three individual championships

(Bishop) – The Navarro boys powerlifting team finished first among 24 competing teams at the THSPA Division 2, Region 5 meet in Bishop last Friday with Sergio Hernandez, David Reyna, and Euler Deleon claiming individual titles in their respective weight classes.

Sergio Hernandez was the top lifter in the Super Heavy Weight class with a total 1,745 lbs. He squatted 705, bench pressed 470, and dead-lifted 570.

David Reyna earned the regional crown in the 190-lb class with lifts totaling 1,435 lbs. Reyna squatted 575, benched 385, and dead-lifted 475.

Euler Deleon took first place in the 181-lb class with a total of 1,510 lbs. He cleared 580 in the squat, 350 on the bench, and 580 in the dead lift.

Hernandez, Reyna, and Deleon qualified for the THSPA State Meet, which has been pushed back to May 2 in Abilene due to COVID-19 conerns.

Three other Panthers earned top-10 finishes in their respective weight class.

Carter Holtkamp finished fourth in the Super Heavy Weight class with 1,565 lbs (640 squat, 405 bench, 520 dead lift).

Cole Booker ended up fifth in the 220-lb class at 1,410 lbs (540 squat, 315 bench, 555 dead lift).

Ethan Hernandez took sixth place in the 123-lb class with 660 lbs (360 squat, 200 bench, 300 dead lift).

Marion’s Ray Rayos took fifth place in the 165-lb weight class of the Region 5 Division 3 meet with a total of 1,235 lbs (425 squat, 275 bench, 535 dead lift).

Seguin was slated to compete in the Division 1 Region 5 meet in Weslaco, but it was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns.

Regions who have not lifted are slated to have Regional Meets starting April 4, but the situation is fluid. The THSPA website http://www.thspa.us/Default.aspx will post updates as they develop.
