Voters re-elect State District Judge Bill Old

State District Judge Bill Old

(Guadalupe County) — Voters have re-elected State District Judge Bill Old to another term in office. Old defeated challenger Jacqueline Phillips Ott for the 25th Judicial District, State Judge position.

In order to secure the position, Old had to garner the most votes from the four counties that are served by the position. Those counties include Guadalupe, Gonzales, Lavaca and Colorado. There is no Democratic challenger in November securing the bench for Old.

The latest numbers as of press time reported Judge Old with a total of 13,659 of the votes cast. Ott finished off the race with 10,321 votes.

Judge Old says he is grateful to have been re-elected and looks forward to continuing his work in the courts.

“I’m very appreciative of all the people that came out and voted for me. We had a great core, group of people who were helping me with this campaign and I can’t thank them enough. I’m very excited about the future for the 25th Judicial District,” said Old.

Old says he is also appreciative to those who believed in his work despite what he says was misleading information that was being released throughout the campaign.

“I’m glad that the voters of the 25th Judicial District did not believe the lies that were spread and that they continued to believe in what we’ve done for the past seven years and will continue to do in the future. I’m very excited about the fact that in the future, we are going to have a new district judge here in Guadalupe County that would be able to take up some of the overage for the civil cases which will allow us to implement a new specialty court for veterans and for mental health. I’m very excited that we are going to have the opportunity to be able to do that and be able to help individuals in this community,” said Old.

Ott, who currently serves as a prosecutor in the Guadalupe County Attorney’s Office,  was unavailable for comment following last night’s election.
