Voters re-elect Guadalupe County Sheriff Arnold Zwicke

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today
Voters re-elect Guadalupe County Sheriff Arnold Zwicke

(Seguin) — Thanks to voters, Guadalupe County Sheriff Arnold Zwicke will continue to serve and protect for the next four years.

Voters on Tuesday re-elected Zwicke as their top law enforcement officer in Guadalupe County. Zwicke, who does not face a Democratic challenger in November, defeated Jimmy Harless for the Republican nomination during the March 3 Republican Primary. Zwicke received 9,473 of the votes cast while Harless received 7,154 votes.

Zwicke, who has served as county sheriff for the past 19 years, says he’s overwhelmed by the county wide support and is thankful to have been given another opportunity to continue the work.

“First off, I want to thank all my famly and my friends and my supporters, my employees and all the voters that came out tonight and made this possible and I look forward to another four years of serving our county the best that we can,” said Zwicke.

Zwicke says he shares the victory of re-election with all those at the sheriff’s office and county jail. He says it’s the daily dedication and sacrifices of these men and women who help make it all happen. He says now with the campaign behind him, he can focus on getting back to work.

“Right now, it’s getting back to work and doing what needs to be done and we will continue to serve our county, continue to reduce that crime rate as the county population grows and looking forward to building a new center for the Guadalupe County Family Violence Shelter,” said Zwicke.

While it’s not the outcome that he had hoped for, Harless says he still appreciates all those who came out to the polls on his behalf and who stood behind him throughout this campaign.

“Frist off, I’d like to congratulate Sheriff Zwicke for winning another four year term and he will continue to be our sheriff of Guadalupe County and I would like to reach out to all the voters that put their faith in me and said some really nice things and encouraged me. It’s not always about the win. It’s about doing the right thing and meeting new people and making new friends and I certainly accomplished that over the last two months and I would just like to thank everybody. Those that voted for me and those that voted for Sheriff Zwicke — for exercising that right — what the many men and women of this country have fought hard in giving us that right and giving us that freedom and I admire that immensely so thank you everyone. I appreciate it. My heart is warm and my head is held high. Thank you,’ said Harless.

Since there is no Democratic challenger during the November General Election, Zwicke will begin his new term on Jan. 1, 2021.
