Guadalupe County Precinct 2 welcomes new constable

Mark Reyes, second from left, celebrates his victory as the new Guadalupe County Constable Pct. 2 with family and friends.

(Guadalupe County) — Voters have agreed on a new Guadalupe County Constable Pct. 2 Officer. Earning the Republican nomination for the position was Mark Reyes.

Reyes defeated challenger Trey Kelly for the position. Reyes was the top vote getter with 1,509 of the votes cast while Kelly followed behind with 1,325 votes.

Reyes, who currently serves as a patrol sergeant with the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, says he’s excited about continuing to serve the residents of precinct 2.

“First of all, I would like to thank and of course start off with the good Lord for giving me the strength and the courage to do this and of course my wife and all my family and all my supporters — my brother for always being there by my side and just to all the voters out there. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for making all of this possible,” said Reyes.

Since he doesn’t face a Democratic challenger for the position, Reyes essentially earns the position in November. Reyes will replace Constable Pct. 2 Jimmy Harless who had to surrender his position in order to run for Guadalupe County Sheriff. Reyes will assume his new role after being administered the oath of office in January. Kelly, a retired deputy with the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, was unavailable for comment following Tuesday night’s election.
