Early voting continues this week

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today
Early voting continues this week

(Seguin) — Early voting resumes for its final week for the March 3 Republican and Democratic Primary elections.   Polls for early voting, which opened on Tuesday, will continue through Friday. Since the start of early voting, a total of 6,070 ballots have been cast in Guadalupe County.      Guadalupe County Elections Administrator Lisa Hayes says she couldn’t be more proud of the turnout thus far.   “The early voting turn out has been incredible. The voters are clearly motivated to come out and make their voice and make their vote count and they have been turning out across the county. It’s been incredible,” said Hayes.   Hayes says heavy traffic has been reported at each of the early voting locations. Those six locations again include  the Guadalupe County Elections Office in Seguin at 215 S. Milam St; the Guadalupe County Elections Office in Schertz at 1101 Elbel Rd; Grace Church in New Braunfels at 3240 FM 725; the Central Texas Technology Center in New Braunfels at 2189 FM 758, New Berlin City Hall at 9180 FM 775, and the Cibolo Fire Station Number Two at 3864 Cibolo Valley Dr.   Hayes says other than a few minor reminders for voters, the process of early voting has overall been a smooth one.   “Everything is running really smoothly. We’ve had the same situation we have in early election where there are voters who don’t realize they can’t wear electioneering gear — hats, t-shirts, buttons and all that from the candidate or the campaign they are supporting. We’ve had a couple of instances of that where we have had to ask voters to remove a hat but nothing drastic. We’ve got a lot of candidates out there campaigning. For the most part, they are staying outside the 100 foot distance marker so we are keeping an eye on things and so far, things are going fairly well,” said Hayes.   Hayes says like in every primary election, the important reminder AGAIN for all voters is that they will have to choose either a Republican or Democratic ballot while signing in. All locally contested races for Seguin and Guadalupe County appear on the Republican ballot. There are no locally contested Democratic races although both ballots have nomination races for state positions and most importantly, the nomination for the President of the United States.   Voters are reminded that voting in a party primary does not bind them to vote for that same party’s candidates in November. Hayes say you can vote for any candidate from any party or even independent candidates with no party affiliation during the November General Election.           Hayes says the county’s adoption of Vote Centers allows any Guadalupe County registered voter the opportunity to cast a ballot at any of the six early voting polling locations. She says this also holds true for election day when voters can vote at any location regardless of the precinct in which they reside.   All in all, Hayes says whether it’s early voting or election day, the elections office is doing all that it can to make sure your voice is heard   “We put a party on for 104,000 people and we hope that they all come,” said Hayes.   Polls will be open today through Friday at each early voting location from  7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
