(Seguin) — Cupids shouldn’t worry too much if they find themselves empty handed this hour. At least that’s according to a local flower shop who believes in staying one step ahead in making sure that everyone gets those flowers and special gifts on Valentine’s Day.
Jamie Lum, of Dietz Flower Shop, says there really isn’t anything to worry about.
“Come on in. We can definitely get your sweetheart taken care of with the perfect gift whether it be roses or a mixed flower arrangement all the way down to chocolates and plush and just kind of a wide variety of items that they can choose from. So, they can give us a call or even come in,” said Lum.
Lum says today is indeed one of the busiest days of the year for the floral industry. She says making sure you are covered takes months of planning.
“Behind the scenes, it is a lot. It’s getting all the vases ready and having all the supplies and kind of getting an idea of how many roses and flower stems you are going to be needing to fulfill all the orders and taking that wild guess as to what is going to be coming. It’s one of our most popular times of the year for flowers. Everyone loves getting roses so we are constantly getting orders. We started back in November getting ready for this holiday season so we’ve been busy and the girls have done excellent getting everything ready for Valentine’s Day,” said Lum.
Lum says when it comes to surprising someone with that perfect gift, you can never go wrong with flowers. She says not only do they deliver hundreds of flowers but even many of their delivery drivers come out to help spread the cheer.
“On an average, Valentine’s Day, the highest so far, we’ve had 350 deliveries in one day so we keep a lot of drivers. We have a lot of volunteers. We are so thankful for them to come out and be able to be our happiness ambassadors and send those smiles all over town,” said Lum.
Flower shops are not the only ones who will be busy today. Local retailers have also been feeling the added pressure to stock those special gifts. Stores such as The Shop, Gift and Gourmet, Southern Good and St. Anthony Jewelry are among the many businesses who have equipped themselves with fun, yummy and romantic gift ideas.
Although these and other stores will remain open just a bit longer today, they won’t be able to guarantee that all items will be in stock so customers are asked to stop by a flower shop or store and secure their gifts as soon as possible.
Other local gift ideas include homemade desserts that can be picked up at today’s annual Relay for Life Valentine’s Day Bake Sale and or a pair of tickets to this weekend’s dinner theater “Love at the Parthenon Lounge” at the Aumont Rose Ballroom. The bake sale begins today at 11 a.m. at the El Ranchito Restaurant while the dinner theater will host three performances throughout the weekend. Tickets are $60 each and can be purchased at playlandevents.com. Proceeds from the performance will go to support the Special Kids with Specials Needs in Seguin.
