Fire shuts down local HEB store

Fire shuts down local HEB store

(Seguin) — Shopping in your local HEB store may take a little while longer. That’s because there was a small fire inside the store early Wednesday morning. That’s according to Jennifer Sourdellia, the public information officer for the city of Seguin.

“We received a call about 2 o’clock (Wednesday) morning and the Seguin Fire Department was dispatched to a small structure fire at the HEB in the 1300 block of East Court Street here in Seguin. They said a cardboard compacter had caught and it was a relatively small fire. Personnel at the store had used some fire extinguishers in attempt to put the fire out and when our Seguin Fire Fighters arrived on scene, they finished extinguishing the fire with water,” said Sourdellia.

Sourdellia says while all employees and firefighters were safe, the store did suffer minimal damage.

“The only thing that was completely damaged was the compactor itself. They did tell me that the entire store filled up with smoke and our fire fighters stayed on the scene until about 5:30 (Wednesday) morning to help clear out the smoke from the store,” said Sourdellia.

As of press time Wednesday, the local grocer was still closed. HEB officials say they were working to reopen the store as soon as possible and couldn’t say exactly when that would be.
