(Seguin) — There has been a new addition to the leadership team at A.J. Briesemeister Middle School.
A letter was sent home to parents on Tuesday explaining that Dr. James Diaz had been named co-principal at AJB.
In that letter, Seguin ISD Superintendent Dr. Matthew Gutierrez stated that after much reflection on how to best impact the students and staff at AJB, he decided to name Dr. Diaz co-principal. Dr. Diaz had been an assistant principal at Seguin High School. Dr. Diaz will serve alongside current AJB Principal Dr. Benjamin Grijalva. This is Grijalva’s first year serving the middle school campus.
In the letter, Dr. Gutierrez adds that he is confident that with Dr. Diaz serving in this supportive role, they’ll create an environment with “increased focus on academics, positive behavior and overall student achievement.” He states, “Our students and staff deserve this.”
The addition of Dr. Diaz to the AJB administrative team comes a day after the Seguin ISD Board of Trustees met behind closed doors during a special meeting to discuss the “performance of (the) A.J. Briesemeister Middle School Administration.”
District officials also noted that in order to help balance its campus leadership structure, AJB Assistant Principal Ryan Randolph would be relocated to Seguin High School to serve as an assistant principal.
