Contract approved for Seguin ISD Superintendent in Madison

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today

(Seguin) — The Madison Metropolitan School District has officially approved the contract for Dr. Matthew Gutiérrez as its next superintendent of schools. The contract was approved Monday night.

The two-year contract for Gutiérrez begins June 1, 2020 and runs through May 31, 2022.

According to reports, Gutiérrez will be paid $250,000 in the first year. In his second year, the contract states Gutierrez shall receive at least a two-percent annual salary increase over the prior year’s total annual salary.

The decision was made the same night that his contract was also up for discussion in the Seguin ISD. Although no action was taken following the closed session, School Board President Cinde Thomas-Jimenez says trustees were unable to comment on what was discussed.

She did, however, confirm that the discussion was part of the overall superintendent contract process. Questions about the contract had been raised by members of the public following Dr. Gutierrez’s decision to accept the job in Madison, Wisconsin.

Some wondered why the process was even still necessary here locally as Dr. Gutierrez is set to leave the district at the end of the school year.

News that Dr. Gutierrez could potentially be leaving was announced in December when he became one of the three finalists for the job. The Seguin ISD, just last week, approved a superintendent search firm and will meet with that firm this Thursday to nail down a schedule for the search and replacement of Dr. Gutierrez.
