City announces parade, Christmas Tree decorating, cocoa winners


(Seguin) — The three day holiday celebration might be over in downtown Seguin but it’s festive lighting and holiday spirit continue on in downtown Seguin. The celebration included Thursday’s annual Holiday Lighted Parade and Lighting Up of Central Park; Friday’s Cocoa Sip-N-Stroll, and Saturday’s North Pole Stroll.

The events are hosted each year by the city of Seguin and its Main Street Program and the Seguin Parks and Recreation Department.

Taking the top prizes in the commercial category for the holiday parade were Seguin Electric Department, first place; Leap Ahead Learning, second place and Saenz Boot & Shoe Repair and Triad Promotions, third place.

Serving as this year’s parade judges were Gloria Kinz, of Tri-County Surveying; Kay Martin of Tri-County A/C & Heating and James Reyes of the Law Office of Ruben James Reyes.

Those placing in the non-commercial category include the Navarro High School Cheerleaders, first place; Church of God Holiness second place and St. James Catholic School, third place.

Residents are also encouraged to congratulate local downtown businesses for being big winners in this year’s Sip-N-Stroll contest. Coca winners announced by the Seguin Main Street Program include Lifegate Church, Best Milk Chocolate Cocoa; Guadalupe Printing Solutions, Best White Chocolate Cocoa; Gift & Gourmet, Best Dark Chocolate Cocoa; Guadalupe Valley Habitat for Humanity, Most Unique Cocoa and Playoffs Sports Bar & Grill, Most Creatively Named Cocoa.

Families are also invited back to Central Park to check out in more detail this year’s Christmas Tree Decorating Contest winners. They include Guadalupe County Master Gardeners, first place; St. James Catholic School, second place; Leap Ahead Learning, third place and Home Depot, Honorable Mention.
