(Seguin) — Design work is nearly complete on the plans for a total makeover of the Max Starcke Park Golf Course Pro Shop.
Golf Course General Manager Bruce Allen showed off some of the plans during Tuesday night’s meeting of the Seguin City Council. Allen says TSG Architects is handling the design work, and he says the building will get an overall new look. He says the front of the building will have a much more pleasing appearance.
“We are taking away that tin awning, the tin roof and we are going to go with the suspended awnings kind of like we have at the Development Center. It’s going to look like that. When you walk in, you are going to notice a few differences. The counter will be on the left where it used to be way back when I’m told and that’s going to free up that room on the right. We are going to have more inside seating in there and that’s also going to be the way that golfers go to the new putting green and chipping area in the back,” said Allen.
The back of the building will not only provide access to the putting green, but it will also have a covered seating area, with additional space to host golfers who participate in tournaments at the course. He says the putting and chipping practice area will be very different from what’s currently there at the golf course.
“It’s going to extend from the Pro Shop all the way to parks office. So, there will be one big putting green back there that will be approximately equal to the two putting greens we have right now and then we will have about 15,000 feet of chipping and putting area. We might even have a sand trap if we can figure out where to aim it. We can’t have it to where they are hitting towards the parking lot because if they skull it, they’ll take out the cars. We can’t have it toward the golfers or the players playing tennis but we are going to try to incorporate it,” said Allen.
Allen says that practice area behind the pro shop will not only be longer, but it will be much wider as well.
“The north side is going to be almost to the tennis court. The south side is going to be right up against the parking lot so it’s going to be a huge area and it will be very convenient for people. I think they will sit out there and practice a whole lot more,” said Allen.
The design work should be completed soon, and Allen says they hope to go out for construction bids around Christmas.
